Joy filled the library media center today as our Honors Teacher Cadets welcomed young children for a morning of play and connection! Through hands-on activities and interactions, the Cadets explored early childhood development in action as they prepared for upcoming visits to local elementary and middle schools.

Yesterday's blood drive was a success. 20 individuals stepped up to donate blood for the very FIRST TIME! That is something truly worth celebrating!

Economics and Personal Finance students learned the "Reality of Money" through a financial literacy simulation run by SECU's Brandy Pittman and Jason Wilson. Through this hands-on presentation, the students gained experience and learned hard lessons about budgeting and making smart financial decisions.

Speech and Debate II Students competed in a speech and debate tournament at Apex Friendship HS this weekend. They spoke in four rounds in informative speaking and original oratory categories.

Economics and Personal Finance students explored the impact of the local seafood industry on the NC economy and its relationship to the unit topic-international trade. Oystering is a multimillion-dollar industry in our state.
For the lab, students attempted to filter as effectively as possible, modeling the role of the oyster in the ecosystem.

Whitney Mayer joins our school as the new Instructional Technology Facilitator and Testing Coordinator. We are happy to welcome her to the ECHS family!
About Whitney:
I am thrilled to be the new Instructional Technology Facilitator at ECHS! I hold a B.S. in Child Development from Meredith College and a Birth-Kindergarten teaching license from East Carolina University. I’ve been teaching for 14 years, but I’m currently expanding my toolkit by completing my Master’s degree in Learning, Design, and Technology at UNCC, graduating this December!
I am incredibly excited to collaborate with the teachers and students and find innovative, meaningful, and engaging ways to implement technology into the classrooms.
Outside of school, I share my life with my husband and two very busy boys. You can usually find me curled up with a good book, out on the golf course, or cheering from the sidelines of a soccer field.
